The more I’ve read, the more people I’ve spoken to, the more I’ve come to believe that we’re expecting a bit too much of our human judges. Injustice is built into our human systems. For every Christopher Drew Brooks, treated unfairly by an algorithm, there are countless cases like that of Nicholas Robinson, where a judge errs on their own. Having an algorithm – even an imperfect algorithm – working with judges to support their often faulty cognition is, I think, a step in the right direction.
