When we say that every person should be treated with dignity and respect, it’s not because of our commitment to human rights but because we’re all created in the image of God. Every person is endowed with inestimable value and should be treated with dignity and respect. The imago Dei is the only true foundation of human rights. This is an indictment of Christians who mock or demonize people identifying as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. Such hurtful actions and attitudes fail to honor the dignity and value of others created in the image of God.
