Observe young children when they arrive at a birthday party. They are shy and inhibited. Half an hour later they are screaming with delight. They are on a complete high and they don’t need alcohol, nicotine or any other outside drugs to achieve it. That is a true high: just feeling great to be alive. In fact, there are few greater pleasures in life than hearing the unadulterated laughter of others, be they babies, children or adults. You don’t even have to know why they are laughing: laughter is infectious. By the time they reach adolescence, the brainwashing has taken effect.
