The reason security guards in Las Vegas are given training every four months is because research suggests that we forget clinical skills after this time. In hospitals, the nursing staff are given basic life-support training every year, sometimes every two years and, in some trusts, three-yearly, despite the guidance and recommendations from the Resuscitation Council.
