His dads would call it denial. His team would call it his typical, uncanny optimism. But Adrian couldn’t help it. The truth was, he did not believe that Nightmare was dead.
“And once they”—she paused—“once we have total power, what’s to keep us from becoming villains ourselves?”
“Are you kidding? She’s totally using her power wrong. If I had ice manipulation, I would wear ice skates all the time and make a constant path of ice in front of me everywhere I went.”
“There are so many things to marvel at. How could anyone want to hurt it? How can people wake up every morning and not think—look, the sun is still there! And I’m still here! This is incredible!”
“Nothing. Just, for a second you reminded me of … someone.”
Maybe she reminded him of his mom for a second because she's said that before. Nova picked it up from Phobia, who picked it up from Adrian's mom, or vice versa, just like the "one cannot be brave who has no fear" thing. Maybe this is because Phobia and Lady Indomitable used to know each other? Before he killed her, I mean.
The funny thing about living in a city full of skyscrapers was that no one ever looked up.
