What do you as an author want for yourself and how you define success? Do
Being story first means that when I choose what to write there is a reason.
ASSIGNMENT: Decide why you want to write the novel you want to write and decide who your POV characters are.
A Story Pitch is a tool that you as the author can use when pre-writing, writing, and re-writing your novel.
At its core, a story is a character who wants something, but an antagonistic force gets in the way of that want, causing conflict.
- The main point-of-view character of your novel.
If you have multiple main-POV characters you can write a Story Pitch centered on each of them.

This is the bad thing that will happen if your POV character does not achieve their Big Want.
It’s important that the genre of your story is clear from your Story Pitch.
This is the main theme of your novel.
- If they have an arc you need to hint at what that arc is.
If they experience any kind of internal conflict from their wants or the choices they have to make.
A character desperately wants a thing, but this other thing is getting in their way. If they fail to get the thing they want then something bad will happen.

List your answers for all the elements of story. Plug the core elements into the pitch template. Make sure the genre of your story is clear. Add the voice element and don’t hesitate to add new sentences. Make sure the theme of your story is hinted at. If the theme is unclear consider tying a character arc, internal conflict, or more intimate wants into the Story Pitch.
Check for missing elements. Rewrite till you are happy with the results.

Wrath of Dragons is such a beast of a novel. I have three main point-of-view characters and three minor point-of-view characters.
Structure is king when it comes to screenwriting.
With novels, genre rules.
If I wanted to make money, cranking out several romance series would be the way to go, but I don’t read romance.
“write what you know.”
List at least three ways your novel will follow or twist reader expectations.
a List of Awesomeness!
To create a List of Awesomeness, all you have to do is write out all of the awesome stuff you want to put into your novel.
list. This is a brain-storming session where you are listing out awesome stuff.
Make a List of Awesomeness. It should be twenty to forty things you wish to include or do in your novel. If your list ends up longer, that’s alright, but try to make sure it does not end up shorter.
For now, your goal is to figure out the
meat of what should happen in each act of your story.
Break your Story Pitch for your POV characters into the three act structure and then rewrite them to be a basic synopsis for your story. Don’t let the synopsis get more than a page long and if there are any extra special twists, beats, or revelations that you know, feel free to include them.
