Modern curriculum teaches reading comprehension skills with snippets of informational texts, tries to measure knowledge with multiple choice tests, and assigns busywork to attempt to illustrate accomplishment. A liberal arts education, on the other hand, builds virtue through habit, wisdom through communion with great thinkers in literature, and metaphorical thinking through poetry.
