Here is a contradiction that took me a long time to figure out: I desperately wanted to get past my grief but I also (subconsciously) dreaded it. Because getting past it might mean that all the reminders of Joy, and of our life together, would recede, or possibly even disappear, and I didn’t want that to happen.
