The Fighter

He wanted to lie down in the bed where he slept as a boy and spread his arms and welcome those other lives. Ask them to come and deliver that peace and if it was possible to ask the gods and monsters that lurked on the other side to take him all the way back and give him a chance to begin again.

Only that feeling of being a singular soul amid the endless living and the countless dead with this black ground nestled against the skin of our bare feet.

His head fallen against the window pane and his eyes out into the storm and the only thing he knew was that he had once been a boy and then he had become a hitchhiker through his own life.

He woke up sick and he stayed sick all day. Vomiting and coughing. Taking more red pills and more blue pills and drinking more whiskey to rid him of the sickness of taking too many pills and drinking too much whiskey.
