Isn’t the dress pretty?” “Yes,” his mother said. “It is a very pretty dress.” “Colors,” Dibs said. “Beautiful colors.” This was quite different from his usual quiet entrance. His mother smiled. “Dibs insisted on bringing one of his birthday gifts to show you,” she said. “Is it all right with you?” “Of course it is,” I said. “If he wanted to bring it with him, it’s quite all right.”
