I hear this often from friends who are unhappy in their marriages - that they aren't happy or that the other person doesn't make them happy anymore. But the goal of marriage isn't to make you happy, nor is it anyone else's responsibility to make you happy. If more people had the right expectations of marriage, it could truly be the kind of committed covenant God intended instead of a breakable contract dependent on transitory feelings.
