His heart thudded unexpectedly. Hard. An ache he’d never experienced.
She came to him immediately, no hesitation.
He didn’t want her sympathy. He didn’t want anything from her that might somehow change who he was, because then he might not be as sharp,
She rolled her eyes, and his cock jerked. She made him want to yank her into his arms and kiss the sass out of her.
There was something about those cold, cold eyes that set off sparks in her. Not just sparks. A timber fire. He found something deep inside her that had never been touched before and it ignited just for him.
The man not only cooked, but he actually made good coffee. She definitely couldn’t set him up to die. Men with his talents were needed in the world.
He looked lazy and yet in complete control. Bastard. She was a mess. The least he could do was be a mess as well.
Every cell in her body sang. Was alive. Alert. Looking for him.
He pulled her into his arms and held her. Close. Wanting to shelter her. Needing to know she was safe. She was already becoming something he knew he would never give up.
“I want you forever. Not for fifteen minutes. Not for an hour. Not for a day. It has to be forever.”
Kissing melted her. Kissing made her catch fire. Kissing stopped her from thinking about running from him.
I
want my own family. A man who loves me the way my father loved my mother, but more, so that love includes the children I want.
It made no sense that she could take over his life so fast, and yet she had.
Excitement had her blood rushing through her veins and her heart beating wildly. That was it. All of it. He made her feel alive. Every second she was with him, no matter the emotion, she felt intensely alive.
He was made for her. Custom-made.
Even his whispers held command.
She was like an angel sent from heaven to make him remember there were good things in the world.
No one, nothing, had prepared him for the overwhelming emotions that rose in him for her. He knew he didn’t deserve her, he would never deserve her, and he didn’t understand how he’d gotten so lucky.
She threw her head back and laughed again. The sound filled the room and his heart with joy. He hadn’t considered that having a woman could be fun. She made the simplest things exciting and amusing. He already couldn’t imagine his life without her. From the moment he opened his eyes, he’d looked forward to the day.
“She’s mine.” He said it firmly. Irrevocably.
He needed rough. He wanted to be gentle. He needed to own her. He wanted her to feel his love for her.
He found himself smiling at her for no reason other than she was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
