Like rest in the ancient world, Sabbath-keeping in our present world is an embodied act of trusting God. When we worship and trust God, there is no one and nothing to fear. Fear, friend, is a disturbance in the force, a kind of invasive species in the garden of Eden. God never created humans to live with fear, other than a deep sense of fear and reverence toward God. The first encounter of “fear” in Scripture does not come until Genesis 3:10 and is clearly the result of sin, not God’s original design.
