When presented with an emotional burden on the Sabbath, I ask, Can I put off caring about this issue for one day? Or does it require that I care today? When a friend had a heart attack on the Sabbath, I could not put off caring for another day. However, when a parishioner has an issue with last week’s sermon, I can postpone that emotional burden until the day after the Sabbath.
