Nor were these entanglements limited to politics. At the heart of the business oligarchy and its media network were Greek banks. They had been recapitalized in 2012 as part of the restructuring deal at the expense of the Greek taxpayer. But they continued to depend heavily on funding from the Greek central bank and the ECB.
