Illness, like love or grief or any other important aspect of human experience, is difficult to talk about without falling into clichés. One of the truest, in my opinion, is that your health is something you take for granted until you lose it. As someone who was healthy for twenty-seven years before becoming ill, I had come to expect that I could count on my body.
