I also asked all the women I interviewed how their experiences of being misdiagnosed and dismissed and neglected by health care providers had changed their view of the medical system. And universally I heard the same refrain: I have less trust in medicine now. They said they saw now that health care providers were fallible and, worse, that they often failed to acknowledge that they were fallible.
