The danger here is just compounded by the fact that a psychogenic diagnosis, while easy to make, is very difficult to overturn. All misdiagnoses are vulnerable to confirmation bias (the tendency to see new evidence only if it’s in line with your existing theory), but a psychogenic diagnosis is a particularly sticky one because the only exonerating evidence that could show it to be false—proof of an organic pathology—is exactly what doctors have now ceased looking for.
