This decision to get in a car and smoke weed had been not only stupid but fatal. It had been selfish. I had been selfish.
I really don’t like how preachy this is. ALSO — to throw a car accident where his friend DIES at this point in the book?? Fucking crazy. You could write an entire book about a high schooler dealing with the trauma and guilt and regret following something like this. To throw it in at this point in the story seems lazy. A storyline where tallulah leaves the school upset to find Nash high would have been perfectly fine. He’d carelessly say something hurtful and then laugh about it ( cause he’s high) and she’ll be upset and they won’t talk simply due to a miscommunication (one that was complicated by drug use) then they talk and make up and are back together problem solved. Then you can dive in to Haegans story if you want
