But there was something else about him, something Alec couldn’t exactly see. It was more like an aura, an invisible vibe, whispering that he might be a nut job.
“Don’t worry. Zercy promised me that no one’s allowed to touch us. Not without our permission. Not even his guards.”
“Ha. You hear that, Mannix? You giant walking boner. No nooky-nooky for you.”
He’d helped Zercy find sleep, something he suspected no one else could do. He wished that didn’t make him feel so good, but it did.
“Are you…” He quirked a brow. “Are you purring?” Zercy’s drowsy eyes darkened. His lips curved. “Perhaps.”
Twining their fingers, he nosed Alec’s knuckles. “To hear it on your tongue for the very first time… as you writhed in the throes… I was bespelled.”
“Is it so hard to say? Perhaps my name on your lips makes you needy.” Alec stiffened, appalled. “Your name does not make me needy.” “Then say it.”
“The light in my black night. You are mine.”
“Kiss your king,” he rumbled softly. “You’re not my king,” Alec murmured. Zercy’s lids lowered. “Kiss me anyway.”
“So many reasons,” Zercy rasped, “why you and I should be incompatible. But we are compatible, Alick. I see this now. I feel it. Like the brightest stars of the cosmos, we align.”
“For the rest of this night I will be your pet, Alick. And you, in return, will be my king.”
