“You’re serious? You want me to marry a pig farmer who knows how to use his pig poke to protect me? Really?”
“I’m just saying you should pick a man who knows that he’s not worthy of you and who will dedicate his life to provide for you and protect you.” He presses another piece of gauze next to the first one. I wince again. “And make sure he’s kind to you and treats you with respect in every way.
Josiah looks at me, then back at Raffe. “Does she need to be here?” “Apparently, she does,” says Raffe. “It turns out that she’s the only one I can trust to watch my back.” I stand a little taller when he says that.
I notice that he doesn’t say anything about my sword commanding theirs to stand down. If only they knew that the sword that dominated their weapons is called Pooky Bear.
I don’t like it when angels murmur in agreement. Nothing good ever comes of that.
“Except it’s in our hair instead of on our faces,” says Dum, starting the engine. “Because we’re original like that.” “Besides, are poisonous frogs worried about being spotted by birds?” asks Dee. “Are poisonous snakes? They all have bright markings.” “You’re a poisonous frog now?” I ask. “Ribbit.” He turns and flicks out his tongue at me. It’s blue. My eyes widen. “You dyed your tongue too?” Dee smiles. “Nah. It’s just Gatorade.” He lifts up a bottle half-full of blue liquid. “Gotcha.” He winks. “‘Hydrate or Die,’ man,”
Everyone looks at me as if I’m nuts. That puts a slow grin on my face.
The twins have started an official fight and are taking bets. Everybody’s happy. No wonder Obi kept the twins around and put up with their antics.
I give Raffe a quick hug. I don’t care who sees me at this point.
