Most of us would do well to realize that any time we spend reading with our kids is time well spent, regardless of whether the books are on particular booklists or meet a certain literary standard. Sometimes we forget this very important truth: the kids matter more than the books. The books themselves are important, but only insofar as they nurture the image bearer before us. We’ll get into how to choose excellent books in chapter 9. For now, it’s helpful to be aware that you don’t have to limit your kids to certain books. Light books count. Hard books count.
