‘I really have to get my stupid book finished.’ Not just finished. Started as well.

In her head, she was back by the river, perhaps imagining a Sliding Doors moment, a different path.

I love when other people (real or fictional) have Sliding Doors moments

If I enter a house with no books it makes me uneasy. I wonder what’s wrong with the people who live there.
