Cicero says that justice consists in giving others what they deserve. The end of justice is, first, treating others in a way that benefits both parties involved. This is akin to honoring a contract, one whose first clause is not to do harm. Beyond the advantage of both parties, however, justice also serves and advances the ends of human society as a whole.
