Terror consumed Tashami as he realized the ship had already begun climbing a wave that was still forming. The water rose in front of them, and the Whale Lord was headed for its lip. He needed to accelerate the vessel in order to break the wave’s crest before the path became too vertical and flipped the ship backward. So he thrust both palms forward, weaving a barrage of wind into the three foresails. The ship gained speed in response. Slowly it neared the crest. He continued his efforts, knowing that if he failed, the voyage—and all lives—would meet a catastrophic end. There was no time to rejoice as the ship’s front half broke the wave’s lip, for now came the difficult part. The bow and keel would lift from the water before crashing back into it as the back half cleared the wave’s crest. This would be a devastating blow to the ship’s foundation and render it useless, so Tashami needed to remedy this potential disaster. He redirected his wind so that it’d hit the sail from above at a downward angle. Hopefully his energy’s clout and thrust were mighty enough to counter the ship’s weight as it became suspended in the air. It worked. The ship practically curved over the crest, its front half gently placing itself back into the sea. And all of this had been accomplished while the ship was turning.
