So many people lined the streets to the Coliseum, and so many convenient windows for rifle muzzles yawned above, that the Beatles’ limousines were sent ahead empty as decoys while they themselves rode to the venue in a Greyhound bus, crouched double on its floor. Before the afternoon show, there was a bomb scare; demonstrators were reportedly being bused in by the Klan and records being ceremonially burned in oil drums.
