Jeremy Paxman was supposed to be the tough one, but it was the audience who landed the blows. It was the laughter that did it. Theresa May, under fire over cuts to school funding, said, ‘In the Labour Party’s manifesto we know the figures don’t add up.’ At that point the audience began laughing. The prime minister was momentarily frozen by panic. Then the heckling started. Someone in the audience yelled that Labour’s plans were costed.
