To get to these textbooks, many schools that have not yet gone the route of giving each student his or her own device have “mobile computer labs” that are laptop carts teachers can check out and bring to their rooms for student use. In schools where these are used, the carts are a common resource, and they are often in disrepair. Either they do not get plugged in so the batteries are dead, or the school’s network is down, or there are missing or stuck keys. They are also old.
