The incident began with Bannon getting angry with his then wife, Mary Louise Piccard, for being too noisy. She had gotten up to feed their seven-month-old twin daughters. She made some noise in the process and woke up Bannon, who had fallen asleep on the sofa. It was New Year’s Day, 1996 (Gold and Bresnahan 2016).
