There is deep shame in knowing so very much about so very much, bursting with complicated, nuanced things . . . and constantly falling short anyway. To our parents, teachers, friends, spouses, and employers, we are confounding disappointments. To ourselves, we are fearful frauds, sure that our ineptitude is as obvious to others as to ourselves.
