The situation is a bit different in the story of the Gerasene demoniac. In one of the better-known scenes in the Gospel, the demons beg Jesus for permission to enter into a herd of pigs that are standing nearby. He grants them permission, and the pigs, possessed by the demons, all drown in the Sea of Galilee. 11 Now there on the hillside a great herd of swine was feeding; 12 and the unclean spirits begged him, “Send us into the swine; let us enter them.” 13 So [Jesus] gave them permission.
