No one else had ever loved Ethan. Not like Jack loved him. And Ethan… The way he talked about Jack. Was it possible? Out of everyone from Ethan’s past, was it possible that Jack was the man who had managed to capture Ethan’s heart? Capture his love? How could he be that lucky?
Jack peered down at Ethan, trying to pour all of the love he felt into how he gazed at Ethan. Could he ever find the right words, the right actions, to explain to Ethan how deeply he loved him, how much Ethan made him feel alive?
His heart and his soul fixed on Jack, one thought, one purpose echoing through him: get Jack to safety. Get my love out of here.
“Damn it, Scott!” Jack shouted, his hands fisted in his hair. He spun, gasping, and glared. “Damn it, I’m not trying to use him! I’m trying to bring him home! I just told Leslie that I couldn’t be with her because I’m in love with Ethan! And, because he’s it! He’s the one for me! I want to grow old with him. Spend forever with him. I want everything with Ethan!”
Jack took a slow breath, his hands on his hips. “The world needs him. I need him. I love him.” Three simple statements, but they were bedrock truths to the foundations of his soul, the cornerstone of what his life had become. A life he’d made with Ethan. A life he loved and wanted back.
So I need to go find him. Find him and never let go. He’s worth everything to me.”
God, he loved Ethan. Loved him in a gut-punch purity, a fire that circled his heart. Loved him to his marrow, and beyond.
