This single study has been cited again and again and extrapolated to all Autistic people, not just young children. The thing that is forgotten is that autism is a developmental disability but not an absence of development altogether. Just because 80% of the children tested by Baron-Cohen, Leslie, and Frith could not pass the Sally-Anne Test at that point in their development, it does not follow that they never will or that no other Autistic people will develop theory of mind at some point in their lives.
