“You’ll kill her,” shouted the third. “Don’t meddle! It’s my property, I’ll do what I choose. Get in, more of you! Get in, all of you! I will have her go at a gallop! . . .”
They are caught spending money, they are not all as cunning as you are. You wouldn’t go to a tavern, of course?” Raskolnikov frowned and looked steadily at Zametov. “You seem to enjoy the subject and would like to know how I should behave in that case, too?” he asked with displeasure. “I should like to,” Zametov answered firmly and seriously. Somewhat too much earnestness began to appear in his words and looks.
If I leave one man quite alone, if I don’t touch him and don’t worry him, but let him know or at least suspect every moment that I know all about it and am watching him day and night, and if he is in continual suspicion and terror, he’ll be bound to lose his head. He’ll come of himself, or maybe do something which will make it as plain as twice two are four—it’s delightful.
General Mack surrendered with all his army, he-he-he! I see, I see, Rodion Romanovitch, you are laughing at a civilian like me, taking examples out of military history!
I had mentioned way earlier that these two reminded me of L vs Light, yep there are several similarities.
Both Light and R are supposed to be intelligent, absence of evidence can't prove they are culprits but that could only be indication of their intelligence. Where as an ordinary culprit would have been caught beacause of mistake he makes, these have to face all their thoughts, consequences nd may be moral implications.
Sometimes you knowing or imagining the results it makes your actions difficult- me often, where as if you could ignore those results your mind can work efficiently for other goals.
“But how will you go on living? What will you live for?” cried Sonia, “how is it possible now? Why, how can you talk to your mother?
Though face offs of R and officer reminded of light and L, it's quite different now, interesting stuff.
Light never got to self reflect, he saw what he did made world better, he took fhe role of some god that's why in the end he couldn't accept defeat.
R has given way too much thought to his actions and nothing good came out of it. He has to face results of his thoughts vs how reality not working the same way, he realizes he is clumsy and took himself for granted.
“Ah, how I loved it! I loved that song to distraction, Polenka! Your father, you know, used to sing it when we were engaged. . . . Oh those days! Oh that’s the thing for us to sing! How does it go? I’ve forgotten. Remind me! How was it?”
Oh, if only I were alone and no one loved me and I too had never loved anyone! Nothing of all this would have happened.
But those men succeeded and so they were right, and I didn’t, and so I had no right to have taken that step.”
