Peeking into his parents’ room, he saw his father seated on his mother in their bed with a twisted coat hanger in his hands. Nibs went back to sleep, and the next day, he found a bloodstained sheet in the trash. Hubbard later said that Polly had undergone “five abortions” during their marriage.
