it might be better to read Paul less as foreground and more as background to the agency of the Spirit. This is not to discount Paul’s important role in the story, but by focusing too strenuously on Paul, Acts too often gets read with a masculinist optic as a heroic tale, and as the exploits of a virtuoso apologist who wields an incredible intellect.
