Utterances like ‘How can you expect me to think of more than one thing at a time?’ are commonplace. Is it possible at all to keep separate things going on in one’s consciousness simultaneously? Perhaps one can keep a few things going on at once, but this seems to be more like continual flitting backwards and forwards between the various topics than actually thinking about them simultaneously, consciously, and independently.
