There was something about Deen that was drawing him in, and had from the first moment. It was getting under his skin like a splinter. He couldn’t help being demanding, trying to drill the dangers into that flighty head of Deen’s. But, also like a splinter, the more he dug around at it, the more it burned. There were sparks there he couldn’t ignore.
