The House of Morgan often collaborated with the Jewish bankers in syndicates and avoided public expressions of anti-Semitism, but J. P. Morgan and his associates were old-stock Protestants, whose social network excluded Jews. By the turn of the century, Morgan designated his firm and the Baring Brothers as the only “white firms in New York.”
