Fire largely accounts for our reproductive success as the world’s most successful “invasive.”7 Much like certain trees, plants, and fungi, we are a fire-adapted species: pyrophytes. We have adapted our habits, diet, and body to the characteristics of fire, and having done so, we are chained, as it were, to its care and feeding.
