Consider the Maharashtra Anti-Superstition Act. Allegedly a ‘rationalist law’, in practice this Act often targets and bans ‘superstitions’ that are more widely prevalent among low-caste Hindus, Ajlaf/Arzal Muslims and low-class Christians. This law rarely targets the superstitions of upper-caste Hindus, Ashraf Muslims or upper-class/white-skinned Christians.
