I was chatting with another Ugandan friend about the line in Deuteronomy when God tells his people to “Talk about [my commandments] when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (6:7 NIV). I wondered why it says, “when you walk along the road.” Because, my friend explained, much of people’s time was likely spent walking, traveling on foot for every journey.
