Jurgis had always been a member of the church, because it was the right thing to be, but the church had never touched him, he left all that for the women. Here, however, was a new religion—one that did touch him, that took hold of every fiber of him; and with all the zeal and fury of a convert he went out as a missionary.
Socialists.
Immigrants come to US for the opportunities. Jurgis found the hope etc he was looking for only in the *limbo* of Socialist Utopia. A socialist utopia that is govern, somewhat, by the org around the world. And there is no way the soociialist group in his former country would survive the impending revolution like it might be allowed to breathe in the US. the best part of soociiallism is the hope tht one day it could be implemented. But it won't be and if it were, it would fail to be socialist because someone would have to be in charge of it.
First, that a Socialist believes in the common ownership and democratic management of the means of producing the necessities of life; and, second, that a Socialist believes that the means by which this is to be brought about is the class conscious political organization of the wage-earners.
most of the ills of the human system are due to overfeeding!
