“Don’t bury me yet. I went into the hospital with a colon and came out with a semicolon.” Jasper’s grin died. “That was supposed to be a joke.”
“Just because it’s the only place you’ve ever been doesn’t mean it’s the best place for you.”
“We’re in no hurry.” She was showing him a world he’d never noticed.
“Check your nightstand. I’ll bet you find a Gideon Bible.” He laughed. “Thanks a lot. Sounds like a real page-turner.” Grinning, she opened her hotel room door. “It’s been on bestseller lists for years.”
“You believe in yourself. You believe you have control over your life and can live accordingly. That’s your religion.”
The veil had been wisp-thin between life and death. All his strength hadn’t been enough to break free, but one soft word from Christ, and he was alive again.
“Roman.” She spoke quietly, calmly. “Jesus saved you.” He looked broken and confused. “Why?”
“Well, Scripture does say we’re not of this world, and Jesus had to smuggle in the Kingdom of Heaven down here.”
Stars appeared, one by one, until thousands scattered across the dark canvas. And I call myself an artist?
What do you say, Bobby Ray Dean? Want to do a little art for Me? Roman laughed. Graffiti for God? What an outrageous idea!
He’d been saved when she left, but he hadn’t been a Christ follower. And that made a fundamental difference in who he had been and who he was now.
