When something turns out to be temporary, the time we had with it isn’t worthless; it’s precious and irreplaceable.
Jesus said we all must deny ourselves, and perhaps this is part of what he meant. That at some point in our lives, we must give up trying to become someone he never intended us to be. We must surrender our big illusions and egos. We must discover that we are small and ordinary—and both are really quite wonderful.
Kaitlyn Bouchillon says, “We live in the tension of the Already and the Not Yet. I have been redeemed; I am being redeemed. I am made new; I am being made new. We belong to the Kingdom but for now, we are all just walking each other home.”
“What will glorify God and how can I enjoy him?”
“This is not where I was expecting to find you.” And I think perhaps he smiles and says, “Ah yes, but I’ve been here all along.”
What the heart needs to know is that we will be okay anyway. And this is the impossible, inexplicable promise of Jesus—we will.
So what is the difference between being nice and being kind? It essentially comes down to this: Nice comes from fear. Kindness comes from love.
Great people don’t do great things; God does great things through surrendered people. —Jennie Allen
When asked about all this, her eyes get misty and she says, “The Lord restores.”
