Sure, that was the motto of unredeemed alcoholics everywhere: I’m not really a drunk.
It was almost fascinating how rapidly her resolve not to drink could dissipate: it was like the thin coat of ice on a Kentucky pond in late January, there one day and just gone the next.
She learned quickly that music sounded better, people were nicer, and she was prettier when life’s rough edges had been smoothed over with a little alcohol.
The proof was in the proof.
Yes, she went days without drinking, but those were mere intermissions between acts.
