“As I said, don’t ever do that to me again. All right?” His words were simple, but I knew they meant so much more. This was equivalent to him baring his soul, letting me see him vulnerable. All I could do was nod in response. “I told you once I would follow you anywhere, and I meant it.”
Eli would probably never admit it, but he thought I died and still retrieved these items from my house. He had wanted something of mine. This meant more to me than if he had actually said I love you.
“I know you feel guilt and pain. You’ve been through a lot, but you without your emotions, isn’t you. Those feelings make you who you are. Why you love so passionately, protect your loved ones so fiercely, and act like a stubborn mule. It’s why people are drawn to you, even against their will.”
“The tent isn’t going to build itself.” Eli stood over me. “You really don’t want me to help you because I might find another place to insert that tent pole,” I grumbled, my muscles simulating wet noodles. One of his eyebrows went up. “I love when you talk dirty.” “If I actually had the energy to roll over, I would tell you to kiss my ass.”
“I have never let myself feel jealousy. It is one emotion that strikes my animal side, and I need to control it. It takes a lot to switch it on, but when it happens, there is no stopping me. I will kill.”
“Really? You mean that?” He grabbed me, flipping me over on my back, crawling over me. “Fuck, no, Brycin.” He pushed his body between my legs, growling into my ear. “If he kisses you or even gets near you again, I will tear him apart. I’m not kidding. I still might.”
