His tone was harsh and defensive. “I couldn’t feel you,” he whispered hoarsely and turned away. “I searched everywhere, thinking maybe you were only out of range, that if I went a little farther, I’d be able to feel you. I never did. Hoping you were still alive, I went crazy trying to find you.”
“Fuck, I’ve missed you,” he mumbled,
I knew who I truly wanted.
My problem was even if I knew how I felt, I was too stubborn to give in. If he was all right being without me, then I had to find a way to be all right without him.
He had wanted something of mine. This meant more to me than if he had actually said I love you. I was certain nobody knew he had done this.
“I’ve come to recognize this week that you are a serious pain in the ass. I will probably come to regret telling you this, but I’ve realized I can live without you, Dragen. I just don’t want to.”
Eli’s chest expanded as he took in a deep breath, his arms crossing defensively. He was silent for a few moments before uttering, “I want you.”
My eyes looked deep into his beautiful green ones. “If you ever cheat on me—” “Right,” he scoffed, cutting off my words. “Remember, I like my beast-parts intact.”
“She is my blood!” Lars bellowed and his body shook. “My blood. My family.”
“My twin brother was your father. He is dead,” Lars stated as he regarded me.
Eli cupped the back of my head and pulled me tightly against his warm body, enfolding me. Sobs surged from my chest. The protective walls I spent years perfecting tumbled away. He let me cry and held me till I quieted.
My connection to Eli was in my veins, body, my skin...everything. It was my need to be near him not a physical pull.
Eli slipped up next to me in the dark. His fingers brushed mine. He didn’t say or do anything else, but I didn’t need him to. It was enough.
“You’re such a girl.” He rolled his eyes and flicked it off. I leaned up to his ear. “But I screw like a Demon.” A naughty grin hitched his lip.
He didn’t wait for me to try again. He grabbed the front of my top and hauled me to my feet. His hands seized the sides of my face bracing me for the force that came. His lips crushed mine. He breathed me in, stopping any oxygen from entering. I didn’t give a crap. Breathing or having people around me were completely irrelevant.
I love you, my eyes said to his. My cheeks flushed and my stomach dropped. I had never told anyone that before, besides my family and close friends. This was different.
A strange, pained emotion flickered over his features. He eventually looked back at me. You shouldn’t. He gritted his teeth; his expression had become stiff and callous. I’m not worth it. He then turned away.
