Instead, he wrote Sergio de Castro with thanks for “the fine lunch you held in my honor” and shared how he “enjoyed the whole of my visit to Chile.” Mrs. Buchanan, who accompanied him, appreciated “the nice gifts, the beautiful flowers, the Chilean jewelry, [and] the wine.”
