Charles Koch later used an apt metaphor that captures this process, too. “I often think of what we do,” Koch says of his firm, as “stonemasonry. Once a stone has been carefully selected and set, it shapes a new space in which the mason can set yet another well-chosen stone. Each stone is different, but they all fit together to create a framework that is mutually reinforcing.”
